General Information

• We use SBxxxx a lot in this spec sheet. These are bridges (solder pads basically) that are either populated with a 0ohm resister (ON), or not populated and left as solder pads (OFF)
  • We can obvious change these as we please, according to our own design decisions

Power

• The JP1 jumper controls how much current we want limited going into the NUCLEO board
  • We want to leave this alone (Leave J1 OPEN), as the board will be powered through the USB port coming from the STLINK.

• However, if we do need an external supply (ie 300mA is not enough, which I highly doubt):

  • Just use Vin, which used CN8 PIN15 and CN11 pin24

  • This will get converted down to the 5v we need for the board, see the diagram below on how to select VIN-5V using JP3

  • Basically, depending on how much current we actually need, we can set a limit by proportionally inputting some voltage. See table below as well

    

    

  • IF WE DO THIS, WE NEED TO SET UP STLINK FOR DEBUG LIKE BELOW:

    • Make sure J3 is plugged in to the right spot and J1 is removed
    • Connect the external source
    • Green LED should turn on (LD6)
    • Connect STLink to PC via CN1

LED Status Lights

• LD1 - user LED, connected to either PB0 (SB120 ON, SB119 OFF), or PA5 (opposite way around)
• LD2 - connected to PB7
• LD3 - connected to PB14
• LD4 - Status LED
  • Slow blinking red/off: at power-on before USB initialization
  • Fast blinking red/off: after the first correct communication between PC and ST-LINK/V2-1 (enumeration)
  • Red LED on: when the initialization between the PC and ST-LINK/V2-1 is complete
  • Green LED on: after a successful target communication initialization
  • Blinking red/green: during communication with target
  • Green on: communication finished and successful
  • Orange on: communication failure
• LD5 - USB power fault, basically just indicates that we’re drawing more than 500mA on the USB device and we need external power source for the board and USB
• LD6 - Power supply LED, used to indicate that we have external power
• LD7 / LD8 - USB LED’s
  • LD8 is on in two cases
    • if power switch U12 is on, then the STM is a USB host (”NORMAL MODE”)
    • if Vbus has power coming in, then it becomes an USB device (we can make use of this to do certain updates)
  • LD7 is on if we draw too much current from the device, recommend using external power supply for this. This will be taken care of in power management ticket
